I'm not yours, you're not mine, be my anti Valentine...

Out of all of life's greatest virtues, love is the most powerful force. It raises criminals to presidents, provokes war and peace, turns friends into foes. Today, it is celebrated in most countries for couples to rekindle that moment they fell for each other, or simply to let Cupid's arrow nail romanticism straight to the heart. I was reminded yesterday of our impending wedding anniversary. Yes, it's been five years I've been married to my lovely wife and wish for many more years with her. She wanted to celebrate our anniversary here:
At a trendy, upmarket and you guessed it, revolving. Yes, this restaurant revolves on an axis and you get a 360 degree view of Likas Bay, in Kota Kinabalu. Mind you, both of us are not into fancy restaurants in particular. We're quite at ease at your local "kedai kopi" and the best experience we both had to fine dining is at Secret Recipe (sadly) where we only had Ice coffee and gourmet ice cream for my lil' one. The restaurant's called Atmosphere it's located here:See the gap halfway up the building? That's where the restaurant's located. The building belong's to the Sabah Foundation and the tower is named after the first Chief Minister of Sabah, Tun Mustapha hence Tun Mustapha Tower. This building was the pinnacle and the manifestation of Sabah's wealth in the late 70's. It was iconic. Buildings in Kuala Lumpur back then couldn't even resemble the elegance of this building. Now, it's only synonymous with scandal, mismanagement and corruption with endless finger pointing. As the saying goes, sad but true. Not to get too political but the Malaysian parliament has recently been resolved and now the inertia and anticipation for Malaysia's 12th general election has been popping up like wildflowers. Of course with any up and coming general elections, rumours are always strife. The outcome will always determine the truth of these rumours and boasters will have the bragging rights to proving that these rumours are true once the ballots are closed and the results are out. The casket will remain closed for some and opportunities will abound for some. When will our forefathers stop screwing up the future of children and our children's children I don't know. If democracy exists then the majority will rule. Then maybe we will have a better reason to celebrate the nation's 51st Independence. Ok, let me get off my soap box and digress into what I first started ranting about.
Perhaps the most gross representation of love this year was no other than MCA politician Mr. Chua Soi Lek, a health minister caught with his pants down literally! on tape! and distributed on VCD/DVD! Resignation was the only way out. Here's a snippet from UKMedix news:

The Health Minister for Malaysia Mr.Chua Soi Lek looked pretty pleased with himself when he announced that the health ministry’s special enforcement team along with customs officials had pounced on the container which was coming in from Singapore. It had all in all over 1.4 million Miagra tablets which would be worth a small fortune on the black market in Malaysia. (Friday, 23 March 2007)

I can think of a million and one jokes by this snippet alone but I'll let this one pass just because he's ENLARGED ego, has been BANGED a little too HARD lately.

If there was an award for Valentine's day (I doubt there will ever be in Malaysia since it is widely accepted as a Christian celebration to the eyes of most Muslims) The award for this would fall to this Paul Potts:

You need alot of passion for singing if you want to even attempt at singing any of Pavarotti's songs. Anyhow, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Happy Valentine's day! May you find that passion for your whatever it is you wish to endeavor and may it remain and prove to be a blessing in your life.
